General Information

Foreword

Finnhun.com was carried out with the support of European Community's Youth programme and "Future Capital" subprogramme. Originally it started out to be only Finnish-Hungarian dictionary and thesaurus. Next the project was expanded furthermore functions and with English language. I made the dictionary fully intertranslatable between the three languages, which made it unique on the Internet. General Finnish-Hungarian dictionary haven't existed on Internet, furthermore this is the broadest English-Finnish online dictionary available. My goal: to strengthen Finnish-Hungarian relations, together with creating a well use online dictionary.

Usage of dictionary

All functions and menus are accessible (upto now only under Mozilla and Internet Explorer (IE) 4.0+) by keyboard also.

The buttons of special letters are accessible by TAB key or the letters can be selected by pressing the following key combinations. The keys in order of the letters from left to right as follows: ALT+1, ALT+2, ALT+3, ..., ALT+8, ALT+9, ALT+I, ALT+O, ALT+P.

By TAB key every word and expression can be reached also. For faster navigation you can jump the special letters over in the tabulator order by pressing the ALT+Q keys.

Changing between menupoints:

  • ALT+A (Dictionary)
  • ALT+S (Thesaurus)
  • ALT+D (Forum)

Extra buttons:

  • previously searched word ()

Functions

Next to each word in a sidemenu there are four buttons. Every button, depending on it is available or not, is gray or coloured.

  • Synonyms
    • It searches words with similar meaning in the thesaurus.
  • Conjunctions
    • Inflexions or conjunctions.
  • Translate into the third language
    • It translates into the flag symbolized language.
  • Mistake report
    • You may correct a mistyped word or part of speech or both.

Adding new words or phrases

You can take part in expanding the dictionary! You can add new words or phrases. The added words and phrases will get into a midst-table, where from they will be added to the dictionary after processing.

Adding new words

  1. choose "Add words" from menu
  2. select the language you wish to add words to
  3. select "word"
  4. type the word and its translation
  5. select the part of speech (*)
  6. to save the changes, press "Save". If you want to finish adding words, press "End"
(*) = not necessary

Adding new phrases

  1. choose "Add words" from menu
  2. select the language you wish to add phrases to
  3. select "phrase"
  4. type the phrase and its translation
  5. to save the changes, press "Save". If you want to finish adding phrases, press "End"

Author of the FinnHun, Finnish-Hungarian-English On-line Dictionary is Istvan Csiszar. The layout, programme code, as well as the database are his and WebLab Informatika Kft's exclusive properties. Usage of the dictionary is free of charge for everyone.
